Why Always Have Hope?

There are a lot of different inspiring messages out there and there are different definitions of hope. What does hope mean for you? It could be an optimistic feeling or wishful thinking. The Hope we share is a reality. It is a confident assurance that God has a plan, that God is always with us and He is faithful. This is the core message behind Always Have Hope. Ultimately, our hope is the belief in eternal life and it provides a secure foundation throughout the challenges of life.

After experiencing my first mission trip in 2009, I had the privilege of leading a mission team the following year. It was during this trip that the Lord led us to the barrio of La Cruz, just outside of Estelí, Nicaragua. The Lord has shown me the true definition of hope through the beautiful people of La Cruz. This is where the message "always have hope" came to life for me.

The people of La Cruz rely on a dumpsite for food, shelter and clothing. This is where the poorest of the poor live in a country that is the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Most North Americans have no clue what it means to live in extreme poverty, me included. The World Bank defines extreme poverty as surviving on less than $1.90 per day. When you do not know where your next meal is coming from and you have no place to live it is tough to "always have hope". But this is the exact message the Lord gave me to share with the people of La Cruz. Since then I have been back to La Cruz several times and developed great relationships. I have seen the lives of the people living in La Cruz change, a school was built, a church was built and the Lord continues to move in this community in miraculous ways. La Cruz is a very special place and I am so very grateful the Lord connected me with so many beautiful people in Nicaragua. I will never forget my very first experience at La Cruz and I will continue to share the message "Always Have Hope" all around the world!
